Stephen Hawking dies aged 76
Physicist Stephen Hawking has died at the age of 76.
His family confirmed that Stephen died peacefully at his home in Cambridge in the early hours of Wednesday.
At the age of 22, Stephen Hawking was given only a few years to live after he was diagnosed with a rare form of motor neurone disease. However the disease progressed much slower. The illness left him in a wheelchair and unable to speak without the use of a voice synthesiser.

- He discovered that black holes leak energy and fade to nothing – a phenomenon that would later become known as Hawking radiation.
- Over the years, Stephen Hawking has written or co-written a total of 15 books.
- One of the books published by Stephen Hawking was A Brief History of Time in 1988 – this has sold more than 10 million copies.
He was a great scientist who continued to inspire the world throughout his life.
